People Initiative for Development and Relief Organization (PIDRO) is a women-led, multi-sector humanitarian organization committed to delivering integrated, community-driven, and contextually responsive programming. PIDRO collaborates closely with local communities, civil society actors, and international partners to contribute to effective, accountable, and locally grounded humanitarian action.
People Initiative for Development and Relief Organization
(PIDRO)

Before its official registration, the People Initiative for Development and Relief Organization (PIDRO) began as a community-driven initiative committed to supporting displaced and vulnerable families affected by crisis.
In response to the severe economic hardship and deteriorating living conditions faced by families displaced from Khartoum, our team mobilized volunteers to provide urgent humanitarian assistance in Kosti, in White Nile State.
With the generous support of the Sudanese Spanish House, on July 26, 2024, we distributed 460 hot meals to displaced individuals residing at temporary displacement sites in That Al-Nitaqain School and Jamloun School.
With the same generous support, on August 9, 2024, our team also distributed food baskets to 110 displaced families, helping them meet their most basic food needs during a very challenging period.
These efforts were carried out by dedicated volunteers who strongly believe in solidarity, dignity, and community support.
This initiative marked the beginning of our humanitarian journey, and today PIDRO continues working to strengthen community resilience and support vulnerable communities
Legal Status
PIDRO is a Sudanese national organization legally registered with the Federal Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC). This federal registration grants PIDRO the legal authority to operate across all states in Sudan, providing multi-sector humanitarian and early recovery interventions. Currently, PIDRO operates in Khartoum with full capacity to expand programs to other regions as needed.
This registration ensures legal flexibility, operational credibility, and readiness for strategic expansion, which strengthens PIDRO’s positioning for national and international partnerships and donor funding.
Women-Led Leadership & Gender Commitment
PIDRO is proudly women-led and promotes gender equity, survivor-centered approaches, and inclusive participation in humanitarian action. The organization prioritizes women’s leadership in decision-making processes and ensures safe, culturally sensitive engagement with women, girls, and vulnerable groups.
Local Humanitarian Knowledge & Contextual Expertise
PIDRO possesses strong contextual knowledge of socio-cultural dynamics, governance structures, and community priorities. Through long-term engagement with communities, the organization designs culturally appropriate, conflict-sensitive, and sustainable interventions.
PIDRO strengthens humanitarian response by:
• Promoting mutual understanding between communities and humanitarian actors
• Identifying and exchanging locally grounded humanitarian experiences
• Building trust-based partnerships
• Strengthening the capacity of organizations and communities
• Enabling actors to contribute knowledge to improve local-level response

Access, Acceptance & Operational Presence
PIDRO’s deep community roots and engagement with formal and informal leadership structures enable negotiation of safe humanitarian access, community acceptance, and field-based monitoring in complex and volatile environments.
Working in insecure and conflict-affected settings provides PIDRO with logistical insight into security constraints and understanding of community coping and resilience mechanisms.
Community Engagement & Mediation Role
PIDRO facilitates dialogue between communities, authorities, and humanitarian partners. The organization aligns community priorities with humanitarian objectives, translates technical language into culturally appropriate communication, and manages expectations through transparent engagement.
